A man who contaminated sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys aged nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, described the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.
The defendant played a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.
"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel stated objects including baby oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said Ruben proceeded to play the "treat game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she continued.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating the police response of the events.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the family member contacted the police again.
She stated the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
